Overview
The Japanese Garden in Dijon is a public Japanese-style garden in Parc du Suzon, created through Franco-Japanese cooperation between Dijon and its Japanese partner city Koshigaya, in Saitama Prefecture. Dijon’s tourist office describes it as a garden of contemplation, meditation and rest, structured around symbolic Japanese garden elements.
History
The project emerged in the 1980s through collaboration between Dijon and Koshigaya. In exchange, Dijon’s parks and gardens service later created a French-style garden in Koshigaya. In 2026, the City of Dijon expanded the Japanese garden; the extension was designed to strengthen the garden’s Japanese identity and create new perspectives for walking and contemplation, under the supervision of Masao Sone.
